What Is Storying?
For hundreds of years, people have been passing along stories in Scripture through oral storytelling. Even today, it continues to be an important way to communicate God’s Word with people who have never heard about Jesus. Bible storying can be useful in small groups, personal or family devotions, and especially in sharing the gospel with others in conversation. To introduce you to storying and help you learn how to tell a Bible story to someone, we’ve created the following videos.

Here’s how you can use these videos to learn to tell a Bible story:

  1. Read the story from the passage in the Bible.
  2. Watch the video of the story at least twice.
  3. Try to tell the story yourself. Don’t worry if you don’t get all the details right the first time! Listen until you become more familiar with it, and keep trying to tell it yourself.

As you tell a Bible story to someone, you’re opening the door to a conversation about Jesus. Ask the following questions to help them process the meaning of the story and how it applies to them.

  • What did you like about this story?
  • What bothered you or what questions did it raise?
  • What does this story tell us about God?
  • What does this story tell us about people?
  • If this story is true, what response is it calling for from you?
  • How will you remember this story?
  • Who will you tell this story to?

Practice telling this story to your family and friends. Then, pray and watch for an opportunity to share it with someone where you live, work, or play.
