God – Our Refuge

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. – Psalm 46:1

Is there an area in your life where you need to run to the Father for protection, help, or security? Seek the Lord! Go to Him in your time of need. Flee to Him for protection from the fiery darts the enemy sends your way.

Praise God as your refuge today. He keeps us safe in the storms of life. He keeps us from danger and gives us strength for our journey. He is worthy to be praised!

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
 will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
 my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
 and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions,
 and under his wings you will find refuge;
 his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. – Psalm 91:1-4

Encouragement is part of the ministry of prayer. God uses us to bring joy, hope, and comfort to those around us in need. Read these words from Philippians.

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Philippians 2:1-2

As you pray this week, ask the Lord to bring someone to mind that you should encourage. Send a note of encouragement this week and share the hope and joy of the Lord with them. Let them know you have prayed for them, share a verse of Scripture that God brings to mind.

Praise for God’s Divine Providence

One of the many attributes of God is His Sovereignty. God is in control. He is Lord over all things, has power over all things, and is not limited in any way. Nothing is outside of God’s influence or authority. Knowing this should cause us to praise God! He is ruler over all and because of this He alone has the power to act on our behalf. God uses us in prayer to draw us closer to Him and His character and to accomplish His sovereign purpose.

So this week as you pray for your needs and the needs of others, think about who you are praying to – God – the almighty, all-powerful, ruler of the Universe! This should put praise on your lips and gratitude in your heart!

Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. Jeremiah 32:17

Our prayers may be awkward. Our attempts may be feeble. But since the power of prayer is in the one who hears it and not in the one who says it, our prayers do make a difference. – Max Lucado

Regarding prayer Jesus said …

And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Pray then like this:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts,
    as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. – Matthew 6:5-15

Thank God for His Steadfast love

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning;
 great is your faithfulness. –Lamentations 3:22-23

Father, thank You for the never-ending care You show to Your people. I pray that You would manifest Your steadfast love in the hearts and lives of those with needs this week. Would you bring healing, hope, and help to those who are struggling with illnesses. Would You bring comfort and peace to those who have lost loved ones. And by the power of Your Word and the presence of Your Holy Spirit, would You show Yourself mighty in these situations. I ask that You display mercy where it is needed, strength in the struggles, and the grace to sustain them through the times of doubt and fear. Thank You for Your sovereign care over Your people. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Give God Thanks in Prayer

The Eternal is the source of my strength and the shield that guards me.
 When I learn to rest and truly trust Him, He sends His help. This is why my heart is singing! I open my mouth to praise Him, and thankfulness rises as song.  – Psalm 28:7 (The Voice)

To be thankful to God in your heart is one thing, but to voice those thoughts and pronounce them aloud is all together different. It is in raising our voices to God and thanking Him, even before the request has been answered, that we show our dependence on God and true belief that He can do anything!

What are you thankful for today? A grateful heart is not a fearful heart; it is a trusting heart!

Make a “Thankful List” this week. As you do you will guard your heart for battle and tune your heart with a song of joy!
