Praying as a Community of Believers

Beginning September 1 you are invited to join our Pastor and staff as we pray together as a community of believers. We are calling this #PrayThruSept.

The purpose of #PrayThruSept is simple – Prayer. That’s it! This initiative is not a prelude to something else coming in the days ahead for our ministry, it is simply a call for us to pray – and do it now!

Recently in a message Pastor McKinley presented on prayer, he shared this:

“My great concern in this message is that much praying is about our needs rather than the need to advance the mission of God and see works of salvation in the lives of others.”

One of the greatest things we can do for the Kingdom is to pray for a fire for God to be kindled so strongly in our own hearts, that we ignite a flame for Him in the world around us. We must pray to this end. People in our community, state, and world are dying with no true knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and we must be willing to step outside of ourselves and share Him with others.

Daily Prayer Guide

The #PrayThruSeptember Guide will help us in our daily time of prayer to reflect on the person of Jesus Christ and His Gospel message. Using the word, CHRIST, every five days we will use a different theme to “pray thru” His name.*

C = Confession

H = Healing

R = Restoration

I = Instruction

S = Salvation

T = Thanksgiving

You will find a devotional at the beginning of each theme along with daily verses and points of prayer that will help bring clarity and consistency as we #PrayThruSept with unified purpose together. As we seek God during this time, we are confident that He will stir our hearts to long for His presence, give us renewed passion for Him, and cause us to unceasingly share the message of the Gospel to those who do not know Him.

Fasting

We are also asking that we fast as a community of believers every Thursday during #PrayThruSept (Sept. 3, 10, 17, 24). Fasting is the voluntary denial of a normal function for the sake of intense spiritual activity. You decide the type of fast you wish to take part in:

  • Normal Fast (a fast from all food but not from water)
  • Partial Fast (a limitation of the diet but not from all food)
  • Other fasts (fasting from TV, technology, sleep, social media, talking, etc.)

Whatever you decide to fast from, use the time normally involved in that activity to pray and seek the Lord’s guidance.

On the days set aside for our congregational fast, we will equip you by providing a more extensive prayer guide that will offer further direction to your prayer time and some instruction about fasting.

Will you be a part of #PrayThruSept? We can do many things for God, but apart from the power of God and the wind of His Spirit in our sails, our labors are in vain.

*We would like to thank Dr. David Hawkins for providing us with the “CHRIST” acrostic and for allowing us to use it to #PrayThruSept.

Friday, August 28! Save the date for the movie, War Room. This is a powerful movie about the importance of prayer in life and in all relationships.

Here is a description from the movie site.

From the award-winning creators of Fireproof and Courageous comes WAR ROOM, a compelling drama with humor and heart that explores the power that prayer can have on marriages, parenting, careers, friendships, and every other area of our lives.

Tony and Elizabeth Jordan have it all—great jobs, a beautiful daughter, and their dream house. But appearances can be deceiving. Tony and Elizabeth Jordan’s world is actually crumbling under the strain of a failing marriage. While Tony basks in his professional success and flirts with temptation, Elizabeth resigns herself to increasing bitterness. But their lives take an unexpected turn when Elizabeth meets her newest client, Miss Clara, and is challenged to establish a “war room” and a battle plan of prayer for her family. As Elizabeth tries to fight for her family, Tony’s hidden struggles come to light. Tony must decide if he will make amends to his family and prove Miss Clara’s wisdom that victories don’t come by accident.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Pray for unconditional love in your relationships this week. Use the passage above to pray specifically for someone you know. Below is an example of how you can pray using 1 Corinthians 13.

Example:

Love is patient and kind.

Lord, help me be patient and kind with _____________.

Love does not envy or boast.

Father, forgive me for being envious of ________. Help me not boast in myself, but rather in You.

Love is not arrogant or rude.

Lord, I was rude to _________. Give me control over my tongue and help kindness be on my lips.

Formulate your own prayer using this passage and watch God change your attitude and actions!

Dear Preschool Leaders,

We will appreciate your help this Sunday, August 2.  It is the last Sunday that  children will be in their current rooms.  They will promote to their new age groups on the following Sunday, August 9, Promotion Sunday.  Parents will receive information in the mail prior to August 9 letting them know that their child’s new room number will be printed on his/her name tag which they will receive when they check in at a computer near the Lemonade Stand on August 9.

Thanks to each of you for your continued service in the new year.  Some of you have decided to move up with your class, others have decided to  stay in the same room to teach a new group of children, and others have decided to teach a younger or older age group of children.  No matter where you have committed to serve in the new year, you are a blessing to our preschool ministry, our church, and to the cause of Christ!  I appreciate you!

Leaders in Rooms 7, 9, and 11:

The curriculum for the new year launches on August 2.  You will notice a couple of new curriculum features for Rooms 7, 9, and 11 which include a Bible story to tell each Sunday while the children are seated eating their snack and a craft related to the Bible story which one leader will do with one or two children at a time while other leaders do activities with children in the room.  The curriculum for these three rooms will continue to include monthly playtimes.  See the Bible story, craft, and monthly playtimes in the attachment.

Leaders in Rooms 13, 14, 15, 18, 21, 22, and 25:

The curriculum for the new year launches on August 2.  You will notice a new feature, Make It True, which is a Bible story group time to do in the classroom.  This feature allows the children to hear the Bible story in the Clubhouse and the classroom.  Make It True is replacing Make It Real.  The addition of Make It True strengthens our opportunity to share the Bible story with the children.  See Make It True activities, Make It True Bible story group time, and Make it Stick activities in the attachment.

The list below shows your room number and the names of others scheduled to serve with you on August 2.  Watch for future email reminders with room numbers, etc. for the new year starting August 9.

With appreciation,
Emily Wyatt, Preschool Minister

Praying for Your Children

The school year has begun! For many of us that means added anxiety, endless to-do lists, and dreaded homework battles. For others who have older children, school is no longer an issue. Your adult children have moved on to other real-life complexities that cause stress and worry on an entirely different level.

Whatever stage of life you find yourself in, praying for (and with) your children is one of the greatest gifts you can give them.

The following are a few verses to pray for your children at any age of life. Personalize these verses and unlock the power of God’s Word in your prayers.

Pray that your child will have an unceasing and vibrant love for Jesus, God’s Word, and prayer.

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. – Mark 12:30

Pray that your child will put others before him/herself.

You shall love your neighbor as yourself. – Mark 12:31

Pray that your child is released from the power of fear and worry.

Fear not, for I am with you;
 be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
 I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10

Pray that your child will have a kind, humble, and compassionate heart.

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. – Colossians 3:12

Pray that your child will have a desire to obey God.

You shall therefore love the Lord your God and keep his charge, his statutes, his rules, and his commandments always. – Deuteronomy 11:1

Pray against evil in the life of your child.

Abstain from every form of evil. – 1 Thessalonians 5:22

Pray for pure relationships for your child.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10

God – Our Comfort

This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.

– Psalm 119:50

Are you suffering? Do you know someone who is suffering today? Are you grieving the loss of a loved one or friend? Are you hurting because of some circumstance?

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. – 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

pray-to-god

Pray to the God of all comfort. Ask Him to revive your heart through His Word and help you lean into Him for strength. Ask Him to sustain you, help you persevere, and find peace in the shelter of His loving arms. Pour out your heart to Him.

Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the night watches!
 Pour out your heart like water
 before the presence of the Lord!

– Lamentations 2:19a

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him;

God is a refuge for us.

God’s Faithfulness

All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful. – Psalm 251:10

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. – Hebrews 10:23

Praise God for His faithfulness. He always keeps His promises and continues to fight for you.

Confess your unfaithfulness to the Lord. At times we are often unfaithful to the Lord. We look to other people or other things to meet our needs. He is the only One who is faithful to satisfy.

Thank God for His faithfulness to keep His promises. Thank Him for never leaving or forsaking you. Thank Him for His patience with you as He sustains you through difficulties.

God – Our Rock and Fortress

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. – 2 Samuel 22:2b-3

Today Praise God as your …

  • Rock
  • Fortress
  • Deliverer
  • Refuge
  • Shield
  • Salvation
  • Stronghold
  • Savior

god is my rock

David sang this “Song of Deliverance” after the Lord rescued him from the hand of Saul. He praised God for taking care of him during a very difficult time. Think about what these words mean. A rock is strong and unbreakable. A fortress is fortified and suggests a safe place we run to for defense. One who delivers is a person who brings us into safety, away from the enemy. When we run to our God for refuge we are fleeing to a place of hope, trust, and security. If God is our shield, He protects us. He is like a covering, protecting us from our enemy’s assaults physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Our salvation comes from the Lord. He brings us to victory and a place of abundance. A stronghold is a high place, a secure height, and a place of retreat. Our Savior rescues, preserves, avenges, and defends, giving us freedom and liberty.

Take a moment each day to go to God and praise Him for who He is!

Christ – Our Redeemer, the One who sets us free

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. – Galatians 5:1

Today Thank God for …

  • The Freedom we have in Christ to experience peace, hope, and joy
  • The Freedom Christ has given us to love the unlovable
  • The freedom we have from sin and unrighteousness
  • A country that was founded on Godly principles
  • His Holy Word
  • His grace that sustains us in times of trouble
  • The gift of communicating with Him through the ministry of prayer

Listen to this song about the freedom we have in Christ and let it minister to your heart today.
